Twitterrific is a fun little application that lets you both read and publish tweets to the community website.
It updates regularly a little window on your desktop (very neatly designed and not distracting at all), so you don't have to keep going back to a browser window to check on the updates.
It is (unfortunately for the PC users) only available for Mac users.
