Google - Doodles

The good news is that the fact that I wasn't blogging for so long did not kill my habit of saving all the Google doodles. The bad news is that my Mac died and I lost most of my data, including a big chunk of these.

But since I'm kind of back on track, it only makes sense for me to start my 'first' post by sharing a couple of the latest doodles I saved (on the new wonderful &'very reliable' MacBook Pro I got as a birthday gift):

First day of spring, Google style :) - A couple of days late (blame it on Easter break, and the families visiting)

Google - Achievement #2

I know, it's childish/silly - but the fact that a Googler spent 2 minutes 46 seconds on this blog made me giggle.

Reporting a couple of days late on the Alexander Graham Bell Google logo...
What would he think of the evolution of his invention?

Google - Lego logo!

The Lego brick turns 50 today and this is - by far - the best Google logo re-design I've seen in a long time :)

Buzz - Google acts on video copyrights

Google developed a new technology that allows media companies to automatically bar copyrighted clips from appearing on its video-sharing sites.

The system allows for the automated comparison of video files, furnished by the copyright holders, to those uploaded to YouTube.

Buzz - Gphone ready for xmas?!

Google rumors never die (and never get confirmed either - at least by the Googlers themselves) :)

According to Techland, "A UBS analyst has confirmed that Taiwanese handset manufacturer HTC will ship about 50,000 cell phones running on a mobile operating system made by the Mountain View, Calif.-based search giant by the end of this year."

I can't wait to see what the devices look like - and of course, I can't wait to put my hands on one :) - Santa now knows what to get me for xmas!

Google - Pavarotti

Google re-designed their logo a couple of days back, and it looked great, as usual - A tribute to Pavarotti, I guess.

Google - Achievement

A Googler from the Googleplex itself landed on my blog!!! Finally :)
It doesn't do much for humanity, but as far as I'm concerned, it's pure happiness beyond all else.

Google - Sputnik

I learned this morning (thanks to the Google logo) that it is Sputnik's 50th anniversary!

"On October 4, 1957, the Soviet Union successfully launched the first artificial Satellite into orbit. Sputnik I (the name means "Fellow Traveller") was about the size of a basketball and weighed about 183 pounds (about 85 kilograms). It carried two radio transmitters which broadcast beeping signals at 20.005 and 40.002 megacycles, and which could easily be detected with amateur radio equipment."

Buzz - Google VS Microsoft

This was kind of expected, let's see who wins (if anyone does) the final battle:

"Facebook has suddenly become the hottest property on the Internet, with Microsoft and Google slugging it out over the purchase of just a small stake in the social-networking site amid a much larger battle for dominance in online advertising.

In recent weeks, Microsoft approached Facebook with a proposal to invest $300 million to $500 million for a 5% stake in the startup firm, a move that could value all of Facebook at $10 billion or higher, people familiar with the matter tell The Wall Street Journal. But these people say that Google is also angling for a Facebook stake."

Google - Book search

I stumbled upon Google Book search by mistake a couple of hours ago and I've been glued to it since.

In a nutshell:
"Search the full text of books to find ones that interest you. Clicking on a book result, you'll be able to see everything from a few short excerpts to the entire book, depending on a few different factors. Each book includes an 'About this book' page with basic bibliographic data like title, author, publication date, length and subject. For every book, you'll see links directing you to bookstores where you can buy the book and libraries where you can borrow it. If we've determined that a book is out of copyright, or the publisher or rightsholder has given us permission, you'll be able to page through the entire book from start to finish, as many times as you like."

*sigh* ... It's brilliant.

Google - Gadget ads!

I'm afraid I'll get to a point where I won't be able to keep up with the cool Google stuff - too many innovations, too little time :/

This makes it a the top of the list (followed by google reader and google web history): "Gadget ads enable advertisers and agencies to engage audiences on the Internet's largest ad network with a rich and interactive new ad format. Think of gadget ads as mini versions of your website in any AdSense ad size".

There is so much potential here! I'm pretty sure this is going to be a big hit - specially for interactive agencies who are always frustrated when it comes to designing banners; This solves pretty much all creative issues ;).

My brain is all over the place... Too many exciting ideas are popping up!

Google - Roald Dahl's birthday

I was very happy to see the Google logo today, as we haven't seen these fun designs in a long time.

What made me even happier was the fact that it is related to Roald Dahl; I wasn't excited to learn that it is his birthday as much as I was rembering how much of a great writer he is.

Needless to say I used to spend hours as a kid reading his books: Charlie and the chocolate factory, James and the giant peach, Matilda etc...

Mega-smile! :)
